Director Shinya Tsukamoto is back at the Number 1 fantasy film festival in the world, the 51st SITGES – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which is held every year since 1967 at Holiday Resort in the suburbs of Barcelona, Spain during October, with his latest work ‘killing’. The movie became one of the personal favorite of some famous directors that attended the festival, not to mention Gerard Fossas the director of A Woman’s Heart.
In 2010 Sitges awarded him as The Time Machine, and this year his movie did not fail to bag another award. ‘Killing’ won Best Original Music for the works of the late Chu Ishikawa. This triumph is also not the first time for Chu Ishikawa, this is actually his second time to win the Best Original Music award. He won the award with another multi award winning Shinya Tsukamoto film titled “Gemini(Soseiji,双生児)”in 1999.
An interesting yet sad story about Chu Ishikawa’s Music and the movie killing is that Chu Ishikawa died before the film Killing premiered.
Chu Ishikawa being known for making music for Director Shinya Tsukamoto’s works such as Tetsuo, and Fires on the Plain -to mention a few- was also commissioned to do music for Killing. But after his passing, Shinya Tsukamoto found it hard to accept his death. He then looked on Ishikawa’s previous works that were not recorded on a CD that will fit in the movie. He then used it as the music for his latest samurai movie Killing. And as a tribute to his old friend, he released a CD of Ishikawa’s works that were never published.
